Kolkata, July 27: The CPI(M) on Monday condemned attacks on four of its local leaders, including an MLA, in South 24 Parganas district and alleged the Trinamool Congress had not desisted from the path of violence though its leader Mamata Banerjee had asked them to be polite. Bose said the CPI(M) would organise protest-rallies across the state against Trinamool Congress` "ulterior motive to create anarchy". The police said MLA Shyamal Naskar, CPI(M) zonal secretary Kajal Dey and two local leaders Tapan Bhattacharya and Sushanta Ghosh were severely beaten up and the windshields of their car smashed by some attackers at Chanditala More at Sonarpur. Naskar later accused the Trinamool Congress of attacking them and said it was pre-meditated to scare Left Front activists in the area. The attack came after a meeting of the CPI(M) expressed concern at price rise and alleged lawlessness in the area. While Bhattacharya and Ghosh were taken to hospital, Naskar and Dey went to Sonarpur police station to file an FIR and named some Trinamool activists for the attack. Bureau Report |
